Furthermore, Dotdot, the application standard by the Zigbee Alliance, offers a full library of device commands for deployment, maintenance, control, and usage of connected devices. Dotdot defines thousands of characteristics for dozens of device-types, making sure that all of them work seamlessly together, independent from the manufacturer, the function of the device and, using the appropriate gateways, even the IP-based network protocol stack.

Dotdot running on the Zigbee PRO network stack
Zigbee PRO is the Zigbee Alliance-built wireless networking solution based on the proven IEEE 802.15.4 radio specification. It is designed to require a minimal amount of power, cover wide areas using mesh technology and provide an easy means of adding devices. It has been in use for over decade in hundreds of millions of devices worldwide and has a proven track record of reliability and security.
Dotdot running on wireless- and wired IP-networks
Dotdot is also designed to work on IPv6 (Internet Protocol) based networks. This means that Dotdot can run on top of the wireless IEEE 802.15.4-based Thread protocol. Using Dotdot on IPv6 means that for every device in the network, the most suitable (wired or wireless) networking solution can be chosen, while still being part of an overall and integrated network environment. What’s more, since the network is IP-based, using the appropriate gateway, it can be seamlessly integrated into the existing enterprise network, further streamlining the possibilities of centralized deployment, maintenance and data collection for enhanced system monitoring and analysis. With every device having a unique IPv6-address, full integrity, security, and encryption remains in tact, all the way from the cloud up until the individual devices.
Zigbee PRO and IP-networks running Dotdot will eventually allow for integration using the appropriate gateways, since both are using the same application layer. This compatibility also allows for an easy migration path towards a fully IP-based solution.
